In case of power failure, or garage door system failure, you can always pull the manual release handle, which dangles from the garage door track on the ceiling. This emergency release handle will disengage the garage door from the belt/chain, allowing you to manually force the garage door open. Also, when you close the garage door, without having the garage door reattached to the mechanical system, the door won’t be securely locked, meaning that anyone can come along and open it by hand.
